Motorola back flip 2.3.4

Motorola back flip 2.3.4

The following is the tested and approved by many users including my self akarsh.
It is a good news for all the users of the motorola backflip.

following guide to upgrade the Backflip to 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
1.Download the recovery, 4005cwm.bf and rename it to recovery.img and copy to your phone’s SD card.
2.Download the Custom ROM : final_test-update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-BACKFLIP-KANG-signed  And copy to your phone’s SD card.
3.Download the Gapps : gapps-gb-20110613-signed And copy to your phone’s SD card.
4.Download USB drivers for 32bit/x86  or 64bit/x64 and install.
5.Download the android sdk and extract it in your C drive in your computer.
6.Backup all your data (songs, images, videos, contacts, etc.) on phone and sd card.

Procedure:

1.First of all you should root your Backflip, if not already have.

2.Open command prompt, by typing “cmd” in run.

3.Open c drive and navigate to android-sdk_r07-windows\android-sdk-windows\tools.

4.Drag n drop the adb.exe in command prompt and in the same line type “start-server”, and hit enter. The ADB server will start. Now plug in your phone make sure its in USB Debugging mode.

5.Drag n drop adb.exe again in command prompt and type “shell” and hit enter.
type “su” enter and approve the request on phone if prompted, then type

flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img

6.Now you have custom recovery on your phone.

7.Reboot phone in recovery mode – power off phone –> press and hold camera button –> switch on phone while keeping camera button pressed.Phone will enter fast boot, immediately press volume down key(though will say up pressed) and wait until recovery loads.

8.On your recovery menu goto Wipe and select “Wipe all” this will delete all data and cache off your phone.

9.Press back button to go back to main recovery menu and select “Flash zip from SD”. You’ll see the text “SDCARD: final_test-update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-BACKFLIP-KANG-signed″. Press the home key. ROM will begin flashing.

10.After flashing the Gingerbread you will have to flash the Gapps you downloaded to get Android Market etc.

11.After completion, select “Reboot system now”. It may take upto 10-15 minutes to boot for the first time.

Now you got the new Backflip with this fast Custom  ROM 2.3.4 Gingerbread and the goodness of  CyanogenMod 7.

sakarshkumar said...

@Anhad You need to press the volume down key instead of volume up key.

I found this suggested in other updates I've done... "If you are a VIVO, Oi, TIM, Personal Móvil Argentina, Optus & Telcel user then download signed-IT_radio.zip and copy to sd card, and flash this before step 11 and reboot, then continue from step 10. It will update your outdated radio version, which is needed for this ROM." I should apply it also with yours?

sakarshkumar said...

@Anonymous The radio application for backflip is not recommended because sometimes it makes the phone unresponsive or even may cause the phone to be dead or freeze for several minutes, instead go for online radio.

Bombocloth!
Thanks, it worked at the first try!
I was going to follow these steps: http://www.techgeekguy.com/2011/07/update-motorola-backflip-android-gingerbread-2-3-4-cyanogenmod-7-1/ but their files are password protected. Thanks again!

I don't have the option "wipe all" what should I do now? I have only:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cache partition
3. Wipe device-cache
4. Wipe battery stats

Please help! Thanks!

sakarshkumar said...

@Lyubo if you dont have the wipe all option, you need to wipe all the four manually by choosing them one after the other.

joey said...

error opening sdcard no such file or directory. why is this happening?

sakarshkumar said...

@joey it might be showing you that error in case if you have not placed the required files mentioned in the post in the sdcard

Fabio said...

after flashing, my phone reboot continuously.. how can i solve it?

sakarshkumar said...

@Fabio you need to check whether the battery is properly connected without any loose connections, when starting your phone hold camera and press volume key down you will get to the boot of the phone, then you flash again the phone with the rom make sure it is in the sd card and wipe all content & back up the content. if the phone still restarts tell me. make sure battery charger is connected when doing process and full battery.

Gil said...

Help please. I did everythig to my phone as noted in this blog. Everything was going ok but, after pressing Reebot. My phone's being restarting over and over and it doesn't go any further. At first I thought of the 10 to 15 minute thing but now it just restarts and skipping from the white "M" screen and a black "android" one over and over for almost an hour. I appreciate your help in advance.

sakarshkumar said...

@Gil Remove the batterkeep once after that reinstall the battery, then keep the battery charger plugged to the phone, check for the space in the sd card and make sure the files i mentioned are present in the sd card. press and hold the camera button after you had pressed the power button and then volume down key, but on the screen it says volume key up, u will get the recovery manager, in case if you dont get the display of recovery manager, i will tell you the steps for further.

hi

I am able to 'start-sever' after rebooting my laptop.

However, I still do not get the custom recovery screen, which has the options of 'wipe', 'flash' and so on, instead i see a white triangle and yellow exclaimation mark. After i press the area above the back button. The only 3 options i have is:

1. reboot
2. apply update.zip from SD
3. factory reset

I guess i have the same prob like medha previously. could you kindly advise. Appreciate your kindness in advance.

Regards

sakarshkumar said...

@vivek gupta
Look into the settings of the phone, you can change the functionality of the home button on your phone.

@aiksoon
just click on the 2nd option apply update from zip from sd, it will be working

Hey, I'm stuck at step no.4, I am using windows vista, so dragging and dropping is out of the questn. When I type in the abd.exe's path and enter, nothing happens. What should I do? I have been going through the same steps again and again since many hours now. :(

Saumya said...

I mean pressing enter after typing the entire line including start-server.

Nice blog and just what I think I need, its just that I can't get past Moto Logo with blue screen and the words "Bootloader USB Init" at the bottom of the screen.

Please help, I get this directly after I hold camera button down and power ON.

apply the up/down button after several different tries, I still can't see past this.

If I've missed a step, or something I might have overlooked, your second pair of eyes/knowledge will be handy. :) Thanks in advance.

jampadasas said...

Hi! I'm stucked at the step where you type "shell" when I enter, it says error:device not found. What seems to be the problem? What should I do? Thank you very much.

sakarshkumar said...

@Anonymous
you need to try the procedure again, as in the comments you can see most of the users complained in the first attempt it doesn't work, in the second attempt it works.

@Saumya
Check whether you installed the android sdk properly or not. it would be problem of not starting abd.exe

@>>
press and hold camera button –> switch on phone while keeping camera button pressed.
you are following different, kindly read carefully.

@jampadasas
when you install any new program in your computer you need to restart your computer to make the new program to take effect.
